About The Grow Society
The Grow Society is a proudly Western Australian-grown program bringing children, families, schools and communities together through fun, hands-on experiences in gardening, food education and sustainability.
Our aim is to partner with schools to support the implementation and ongoing delivery of garden clubs and sustainability programs that are practical, engaging and tailored to each school community. From planting seeds and harvesting vegetables to composting, cooking and learning where food comes from, we help make important life skills exciting, approachable and memorable for children.
We believe positive change does not need to begin with growing all of your own food or making major lifestyle changes overnight. It can start with one garden bed, a few herbs, less food waste or a more conscious understanding of the food we buy and consume.
Beyond the school garden, The Grow Society is committed to engaging with the wider community through workshops, events, local partnerships and shared learning opportunities. We want to create welcoming spaces where people of all ages can connect, learn new skills, contribute their knowledge and enjoy growing together.
Why I Started The Grow Society
Hi, I’m Holly, founder of The Grow Society and mum of three.
The idea for The Grow Society began with one school and a simple goal: to give children more opportunities to learn where their food comes from, connect with nature and develop practical skills through gardening and sustainability. But as the idea took shape, I realised I wanted it to become something bigger—something that could support more schools, reach more children and create opportunities for whole communities to learn and grow together. From the change in my own pocket and the help of the local communities, I believe The Grow Society can achieve this goal.
My background is in nursing, community sport and volunteering. For over a decade I have volunteered with children, older people and people living with disabilities as a soccer coach, surfing facilitator and program lead. These experiences have shown me how powerful inclusive, hands-on activities can be in building confidence, connection, wellbeing and a sense of belonging.
I created The Grow Society to make gardening, food education and sustainable living feel simple, enjoyable and achievable. It is not about expecting families to grow all of their own food or make major lifestyle changes overnight. It is about small, practical steps—planting a few herbs, growing something together, reducing food waste and becoming more conscious of the food we buy and consume.
My hope is that The Grow Society will create fun and welcoming experiences that spark curiosity in children, build confidence in families and bring schools and communities together. Seeing a child proudly harvest something they have grown, or people of different ages and abilities learning and laughing together, is what The Grow Society is all about.
